The Chesham & Amersham Green Party warmly welcomes the fantastic efforts of the CarryABag team in their efforts to make Chesham plastic bag free.

It is estimated that each year 1.2 trillion plastic bags are used around the world. This equates to about 300 bags per adult per year. Every year 100,000 birds, whales, seals and turtles suffocate beause of them. Cutting down their use in Britain could save some 63 tons of CO2 emissions a year, equivalent to taking 18,000 cars off the road.

Nick Wilkins said: "The Green motto is 'think global act local' and there is no finer example of this here in Chesham than the CarryABag campaign. Local people have to take the lead because, despite plastic bags being banned in Bangladesh and Taiwan and taxed in Ireland, our Government is doing precisely nothing on this issue."
