Green vote increases by 50%
The Green Party registered a healthy 1,656 votes in the Chesham and Amersham constituency at the recent General Election, an increase of nearly 50% on their 2001 result. This is now the second successive General Election at which the local Green vote has improved by a similar percentage.
Candidate Nick Wilkins commented: "It has been encouraging to see positive reactions to our ideas from so many people at this election. I am confident we would have attracted many more votes under a fair voting system." (1)
He added: "We will continue to campaign locally for improvements in public transport, retention of local services, and protection of the Green Belt. We will also work to improve awareness of the key issues of climate change and global justice, and continue to advocate peaceful approaches to the resolution of conflicts."
