Dave Hampton Green Party candidate for Beaconsfield

Jonathon Porrit on Dave Hampton: a candidate of real stature...devoted to making green solutions work in practice for individuals, communities and the nation as a whole.'

Green Party Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Beaconsfield constituency

David is a long time Green Party supporter and has lived in Marlow since 1992 with Jan, his wife of 30 years, and four children. He graduated in Engineering from Cambridge University in 1980 and was selected to represent GB at rowing in the 1982 World Championships.

He is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist, who contested his first (local) election in 2011, standing for Marlow South East winning 9% of the vote. Throughout his career he has been an outspoken proponent of the case for radical change for planetary sustainability. Both from within the establishment (e.g. industry, research, institutes and government) and from outside, as a seasoned campaigner and activist.

As ‘the carbon coach’ he gives counsel over coffee to Olympians, CEOs and celebs alike, easing their footprints. He’s also a visiting lecturer at several leading UK Universities. He served on the Civic Trust National Award panel for a decade, and has headed up government task groups. The family house was refurbished in 2004, to his design, and is now a UK exemplar highly eco-efficient family home - 'the Marlow Superhome' – creating 70% less carbon pollution than usual. He keeps a low footprint. Every Monday night (since 2011) he has presented a weekly radio show: Watt Next? - All Things Being Eco on Marlow FM 97.5 community radio interviewing many amazing people, global and local, including Lucy Siegel, Rob Hopkins, Heston Blumenthal, Michael Mansfield and Natalie Bennett.

He founded ‘Marlow Low-Carbon Community’ in 2006, and Transition Town Marlow (TTM) in 2009.  He enjoys exploring the happier low carbon life. TTM highlights include: the ‘Ride and Park’ Carbon Cycle (c 170 Marlow people took part); organising Marlow’s first ever ‘Hustings’ for MP candidates in April 2010; and the ‘Echoes’ Pink Floyd community fundraiser for a solar roof for a Marlow school.

In conjuction with Marlow FM, Marlow Town Council, and Deriaz Slater LLP, he created the town of Marlow’s first ever “Eco Award” 2014. He was recently awarded Sustainability Leader of 2014. Dave is happy to recall that actor Pete Postlethwaite RIP once bought him a pint of Guinness. He’s passionate about what he calls ‘grown up green’ and solving the planetary climate crisis once and for all. Dave is a member of the Fundraising Team for the Marlow Rowing Club. In June 2014 Dave swam the Henley Classic (up the regatta course i.e. 'against the stream') to raise money for Vasculitis UK, for his son.
